I will assume that all my complaining is paying off. Must be newer than what I am familiar with. Volvo does have self canceling turn signals. Another question, why can't they let truckers have self cancelling signals and windshield wipers that work? They mickey mouse a truck together and then send it out to run a million plus miles. How come some people are always ready with a camera at such crucial moments? I suppose I am too busy turning turn signals off and such. Sorry again about my rant, truckers really get under my skin. The guys are right just pull extra hard and they will make a bad crunching noise to back them off. I don't think it would hurt anybody especially "professional" truck drivers to crawl there fat butt under a truck once a week and look things over. I hate automatics, seems like if they aren't adjusting themselves up to tight and locking up tires or backing themselves off until they do nothing the automatics aren't working right. He is right, get a long wrench and turn them loose, they will back off Posted 22:39 (#130517 - in reply to #130500) Subject: Re: How do you release automatice slack adjusters? ![]() On our IHC and Pete, they take a special flat tool to raise the bolt up a little in order to back it off. I was using a 12" 3/8's rachet to get the tug. Thats the way this one was anyways, give it a try. If you turn it back hard enough, it should click many times and back the brakes off. Ended up I just wasn't turning the wrench hard enough in the other direction. I ran into the same situation (I think ) when I replaced the brakes on a friends Volvo. On the side is a 7/16 nut that you can turn to tighten the brakes but you cannot turn it the other way to loosen them. These have some kind of arrow on the side that lines up with a notch and is held in place with bolt on top. ![]() How do you release these adjusters so you can back them off to loosen the brakes to remove the brake drums? These slack adjusters are not the kind where you remove a plug and on the plug is a little spring and a locking pawl. I’m working on the brakes on a 93 Volvo semi.
